Dr. Le first invested in hyperbaric oxygen therapy for his wife following her back surgery. With the help of this treatment, she was able to fully recover from her procedure at a faster rate than average and make a quick return to normal activity. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is the intermittent distribution of pure oxygen at pressure levels 1.5 to 3 times higher than average atmospheric pressure. Oxygen is essential to life and its physiological processes, which is why hyperbaric oxygen therapy can be an integral part of a patient’s treatment.

How it works:

The distribution of pure oxygen under pressure allows the body to obtain a greater saturation of oxygen into red blood cells to deliver to oxygen deprived tissues. It also encourages the formation of collagen, skin cells, and endothelial growth factor, essential in aiding the body’s natural healing and rejuvenation processes. ACN Wellness is one of the few chiropractic offices in the area that offers this therapy. Beyond treatment for post-surgical and wound recovery patients, ACN Wellness offers Mild Hyperbaric Therapy (MHBT) for patients who qualify under Dr. Le’s discretion to address common conditions such as, but not limited to:

  • Migraine headaches
  • Head injuries and concussions
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Vascular disease
  • Wellness and prevention
  • Post- COVID recovery

Under this treatment, patients will undergo the intermittent administration of 100% pure oxygen at increased atmospheric pressure over the course of one to several months, depending on the determined necessity.

Potential Side Effects

  • Feeling tired during or after
  • Slight headache
  • Ear pain/pressure
  • Middle ear injuries
  • Temporary nearsightedness
  •  Lung collapse
  • What are the risks and benefits of HBOT, is it effective?

HBOT is a very safe procedure and complications are rare. Risks include middle ear injuries (due to changes in air pressure), temporary nearsightedness (myopia, caused by temporary eye lens changes), lung collapse (as a result of air pressure changes), seizures (as a result of too much oxygen), and lowered blood sugar levels in people who have diabetes treated with insulin. You will need to undergo more than one session to notice results, the number of sessions varies depending on your condition. It has been observed that approximately 40 hours of HBOT sessions have led to full benefits.

  • How is the therapy performed?

We offer a mono HBOT chamber, so you will be able to relax during your session. You will lay down in the HBOT chamber, and a staff member will talk you through each step including how you can operate the machine from inside the chamber. Once the chamber is shut the oxygen will begin to be administered. This exposure helps fill your blood with enough oxygen to reinforce the repair of tissues and restore normal body functions. When the timer goes off a staff member will gradually release the pressure inside the chamber and help you out.

  • Is HBOT painful?

The therapy is not painful; however, common side effects include feeling tired during or after the treatment, slight headache, as well as ear pain/pressure (similar to the sensation of being in an aircraft).

  • How do I know if I need hyperbaric oxygen therapy?

Patients who undergo the hyperbaric oxygen therapy program are determined to need it after a thorough initial consultation/evaluation. This treatment can be done alone or in conjunction with other treatments, depending on the patient’s needs.
