After a thorough evaluation, Dr. Le of ACN Wellness can identify the causes and create a treatment plan for it.

Dr. Le specializes in functional medicine in Vienne and Leesburg, Virginia. His holistic treatments are minimally invasive and include lifestyle changes that can cure many medical conditions. Possible treatments include:

  • Custom Orthotics
  • Acupuncture
  • Dry Needle Therapy
  • Chiropractics
  • Spinal Decompression
  • Nutrition, Vitamin, Supplements Diet Counseling
  • Osteopathy
  • Release Techniques
  • Detox Diets

Dr. Le does not recommend surgery until all minimally invasive treatments have been used. Many of his patients have been able to avoid surgery because of his integrative approach to treatment, which has come as a great relief to them.

The same goes for those who suffer from foot pain due to the above conditions. Many people rush into surgery to correct foot issues when it may be unnecessary.

About Orthotics for Foot Pain

Foot pain is usually a result of muscles, ligaments, joints, or bones not functioning optimally. When one part of the foot or leg doesn’t operate to its full potential, it places pressure on specific parts of the foot causing fatigue, discomfort, and pain over time.

Foot orthotics (orthoses or insoles) can alleviate that pressure. They are made of many different materials to support the foot. Depending on the diagnosis, foot orthodontics can be:

  • Rigid
  • Semirigid
  • Semiflexible
  • Accommodative

While there are many foot orthotics in drug stores tailored to a wide range of issues, they aren’t the best. Everyone’s foot is different and it’s impossible to manufacture these inserts to match the unique contours of everyone’s feet. This is why functional medicine doctors, such as Dr. Le offer custom orthotics.

Custom Prescription Orthotics

It’s important to be assessed for custom prescription orthotics. The medical professional must perform a health history and assess:

  • Weight
  • Height
  • Level of Activity
  • Medical Conditions

The diagnosis dictates the type of material the orthotics. An impression of the feet will help the manufacturer create a orthotics that are specially made for you.

Many people start out with the over-the-counter orthotics but quickly realize they either need to replace them frequently or they don’t work. Unfortunately, these orthotics can also lead to further foot damage as the person continues to walk or run without proper support.

Orthotics for Back Pain

Back pain is one of the most common ailments we receive at ACN Wellness. Many patients are surprised when we offer them custom foot inserts to help with it. They are even more surprised when they come to a follow-up appointment reporting their lower back pain has lessened or vanished. The reasons orthotics are recommended for back pain are:

  • They can resolve leg length differences.
  • Probably positioning the feet to support the weight of the body relieves pressure on the back.
  • They improve gait, which can also better support the back.

Usually, patients who end up using foot orthoses for back pain are those that do not have an underlying medical issue. Instead, they have a genetic abnormality the insoles correct. In this case, these orthotics are the treatment for their lower back pain. This isn’t the primary goal of orthotics though.

A Step Towards Treatment with Orthotics

Orthotics are not the answer to all of your foot problems, although they may seem like it when pain and discomfort are alleviated by them. As a functional – integrative medicine doctor, Dr. Le not only helps his patients relieve pain, but he seeks to treat the cause of that pain.

For those with plantar fasciitis, exercises that target the arch, toes, heel, and calf are useful in healing the condition. Just like with physical therapy, Dr. Le educates his patients on how to do the exercises needed for healing. During each appointment, he may perform manual manipulation to stretch the foot and leg in ways that will help them function better relieving the pressure on the plantar fasciitis. Over time with the appointments, exercises, and orthotics, patients are cured of their plantar fasciitis and that is without cortisone shots and surgery.
